After a long hiatus Ford is finally bringing the Ford Ranger back to the States with their 2019 Ford Ranger model. New spy shots of Ford testing out their new generation of Ford Rangers suggests that maybe Ford is planning a Ford Ranger Raptor pickup. A off road Ranger would go head-to-head with Toyota's Tacoma TRD Pro and Chevy's Colorado ZR2
Based on the photos, the new 2019 Ford Ranger prototype that Ford was testing includes wider fenders, beefier off-road tires, an increased ride height, and a shorter front bumper for improved approach angle. The new prototype design mimics a lot of what the current generation Raptors have to offer begging the question whether or not Ford is planning on releasing a beefed up Ranger Raptor model.
A mini-Raptor based on the Ranger would make sense to compete against Toyota's and Chevy's mid-sized pickups. Expect the Ranger to be utilizing the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 available in current generation F-150s.
Stay tuned for more information about the 2019 Ford Ranger in the near future.
